The frame can be constructed with 2 or up to 5 ribs. The ribs are support pieces of the frame that expand the shape of the awning and extend its projection from the window. Adding ribs can extend the projection from as little as 16 inches up to 60 inches for the rectangular shape, and from 2 feet up to 7 feet for the round shape. Round awnings with long projections create a canopy at the front door to shield you from rain or snow as you enter the house.
